Angelina Jolie Nude Statue

Head to the Holster Projects Gallery in Notting Hill to see the nude Angelina Jolie statue, which has already caused a big stir in the USA when it was exhibited in Oklahoma City near the birthplace of Brad Pitt.

Breastfeeding statue
The creation of New York based artist Daniel Edwards, the nude Angelina Jolie statue depicts the famous Hollywood actress naked and breastfeeding twins. Originally put on public display in America for World Breastfeeding Week, the statue is titled Landmark to Breastfeeding, and is part of a larger exhibition at the gallery that explores themes of sexuality and desire.

Landmark to Breastfeeding has already caused quite a stir on the international arts scene, and now London culture vultures can see what all the fuss is about as the sculpture goes on display at the Notting Hill gallery space. Those wanting to take the work home with them will have to have deep pockets though, as the statue has a price tag of £10,000. Jolie did not sit for the art work and the sculpture is not officially endorsed, which raises further questions about the voyeuristic nature of the cult of celebrity and popular culture that is explored elsewhere in the show.

Mother figure
As well known for her family life and partnership with Brad Pitt as for her film roles and acting achievements, Angelina Jolie seens as a mother figure in the eyes of many popular culture commentators. The nude Angelina Jolie statue is on show at the Holster Projects Gallery from Thursday 10th September - Saturday 10th October 2009. Gallery opening times are 11am - 6pm Monday - Friday, and 12pm - 5pm Saturday. Admission is free
